Nollywood actress, Toyin (Aimakhu) Abraham, has opened up about how she overcame her drug abuse issues and her struggles with depression.
The actress in a new interview with Broadway revealed that her life has changed for the better after she worked on all the negativity around her as she stayed positive and dealt with her depression and drugs abuse.
She said, “I was losing touch with things that used to work for me because I was involved with negative habits like drugs, smoking, codeine. Codeine is very bad, it’s very bad. All these things were empowering my negative energy.
“I realised I actually don’t love myself and I want people around to love me. Then I think I wasn’t focusing on the things that really matters. And I always choose people before me. I think I didn’t love myself. I didn’t love myself enough and I want people around me to love me.”
Toyin Aimakhu said that she was able to break free of her depression and drugs use when she realised that she deserved better than what she was making of her life. “I realised I deserved more…I decided to change my habits,” she said.
She also made reference to her wedding with actor, Adeniyi Johnson, which crashed in 2015 maintaining that she never wished for a broken marriage. She revealed that her noxious relationship with Seun Egbegbe was one she jumped into in search of healing but everyone knows how that ended.
She said, “I didn’t plan for a broken home. I didn’t plan for a broken marriage but when it came and after my marriage, there were so many negativities
“And I was emotionally carried away. I didn’t heal before jumping into another relationship, but I thought I was going to be healed through another relationship“.
